Updates: Misc Thoughts 2012

November 18, 2012

Currently listening to: Danko Jones – “Just a Beautiful Day”

While it may seem like there haven’t been any updates since Feb, they’ve mostly been with my 2012 Concert list. As you will see, I’ve been QUITE busy attending shows this year.

The other big news…I’m contributing concert reviews with pics for a great site: Unsung Melody.

Check out the links below!

Mark Tremonti

Theory of a Deadman and Charm City Devils

Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers

Hinder and Aranda

I even interviewed my first band, Aranda.

Even more insane…I’m on track for 70+ shows by the end of the year!

LONG LIVE ROCK-N-FREAKIN-ROLL PEOPLE!

I don’t think “slacker” is quite the right word in regards to my lack of updates at the end of 2011. After all, I started off last year making quite a few updates, but during the last half of 2011 life just got C R A Z Y! Good crazy, but still crazy! I thought I’d make the first update of 2012 today, on Leap Day! After all, it only happens once every 4 years 🙂

Quick highlights from the last half of 2011:

My son started college!

I officially met Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes!

I won a Twitter contest to see the Foo Fighters play The Metro in Chicago and another contest to see Ralphie May record a Comedy Central show at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee.

My son and the ISU Big Red Marching band played during halftime of the Bears vs Vikings game at Soldier Field Oct 17, 2011. They looked awesome!

Trick-or-Treat on Halloween was another spooky success. Lots of compliments on the costumes and yard decorations. Hubby also overheard someone say, “They hire professionals every year.” It’s a HUGE COMPLIMENT that people think what we do is professional! 🙂

In December, I traveled to California, once again, to see Metallica. This time it was the MOTHER of all shows. They celebrated their 30th anniversary as a band by playing 4 nights at the Fillmore in San Francisco. I was at every show and it was beyond amazing! No, the write up is not done yet. 🙂

I attended the most shows I ever have in one year: 55

Now on to 2012…

New and upcoming releases you should think about owning:

1/24 Royal Bliss – Waiting Out the Storm
1/31 Metallica – Beyond Magnetic EP
2/22 Like A Storm – Southern Skies DVD
3/6 Rocco DeLuca – Drugs ‘N Hymns
3/12 Rival Sons – Pressure and Time CD+DVD Reissue
3/27 Shinedown – Amaryllis
5/22 Slash – Apocalyptic Love

I’ve somehow managed to attend 9 shows so far this year (7 in February alone!). Most pics and other upcoming shows are posted: 2012 Concert List

Rock on the Range was announced at the beginning of February. If you hadn’t already guessed, IM GOING! Hard to believe it will be my 6th year in a row since it started in 2007! Out of the 40 or so bands, there are 22 I want to see with another 10-15 I need to listen to prior to show time. Check out the line up and find details here: Rock on the Range.

On Feb 5, I took my 50,000th picture! No, that is not a typo. I’ve taken that many digital pics with the same camera I’ve owned since Jan 5, 2007!

I celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary in Feb. Holy cow batman!

I’m patiently waiting for the Record Store Day list! Not only because I’m a collector of all formats of music, but since I now have a working record player! Hubby surprised me after Christmas with a new player. I didn’t officially start using it until this year, but damn if it doesn’t put a smile on my face every time I hear the snap, crackle and pop of the album as it spins. The first record I played had to be one I remembered playing as a kid. A few years ago my Dad gave it to me and while it had quite a few scratches (oops, from me?) it still sounds pretty damn good!

What else, what else. Oh yes, I rec’d my Apocalyptica photo book. The pics by Ville Juurikkala of the band are AMAZING! At the time I ordered it, part of the proceeds of the book were going to a charity. To help out said charity (hehe) I also rec’d a “postcard from the road.” Mine came from LATIN AMERICA! SO FREAKIN COOL!

Want your own full color 184-page hardcover book? Order it from the Apocalyptica Store.

I guess that’s about all for now.

As always, long live Rock n Roll people!
